7.       Bhawani founds that his computer always types in capital letter. What is the problem?
àProblem: Caps Lock is on

8.       Define boot time error.*

àBoot time error is the error that occurs during the booting of computer.

Group B

9.       Write any two advantages of backup.

àAdvantages of backup are:

·         Easy Recovery: Backup is the most reliable, easiest, and the safest way to restore your lost files after data loss.

·         Peace of Mind: When you take regular backups or automate the backup tasks, it gives you a sense of data security. And thus, you don’t have to worry about various factors that often lead to data loss.

·         Saves Business: Data is the most important asset for business. A study shows that 60% business can’t survive even 6 months after data loss. With regular backup, one can ensure data security and business continuity in the event of data loss.

10.   How is OS upgrading is different from OS installation*

à

11.   Write any two difference between RAM and ROM.

à

12.   Write two significance of formatting.

àTwo significance of formatting are:

·         Improve Computer’s Performance.

·         Erase the bad applications and various sophisticated viruses.

Group C

13.   Write about key groups of keyboard.*

§  Ã Typing (alphanumeric) keys. These keys include the same letter, number, punctuation, and symbol keys found on a traditional typewriter.

§  Control keys. These keys are used alone or in combination with other keys to perform certain actions. The most frequently used control keys are Ctrl, Alt, the Windows logo key  , and Esc.

§  Function keys. The function keys are used to perform specific tasks. They are labeled as F1, F2, F3, and so on, up to F12. The functionality of these keys differs from program to program.

§  Navigation keys. These keys are used for moving around in documents or webpages and editing text. They include the arrow keys, Home, End, Page Up, Page Down, Delete, and Insert.

§  Numeric keypad. The numeric keypad is handy for entering numbers quickly. The keys are grouped together in a block like a conventional calculator or adding machine.

14.   What is virus? Explain its types.

à Virus is a type of malicious code or program written to alter the way computer operates and is designed to spread from one computer to another. The different types of virus with their infection mechanism and example are explained below:

·

15.   Write the problem and solution to, "computer becomes too hot and shutdown"

àProblems:

·         Blockage of airflow from system case

·         Problem in SMPS

·         Virus infection

·         Problem in Fan

·         Heat sink separated from CPU

·         Running many programs at the same time

·         Mismatch of hardware and software

Solution:

·         Provide proper ventilation for airflow

·         Check the SMPS

·         Install the antivirus and scan virus

·         Check if the Fans Are Running

·         Adjust Heat sink properly

·         Close the unnecessary programs

·         Use appropriate software with appropriate hardware

16.   What is system slow down?* How can you solve it?

à I can solve system slow down by trying following ways:

·         If your computer has not been rebooted recently, reboot your Computer

·         Delete temp files

·         Free hard drive space

·         Make sure hard drive is not fragmented

·         Scan for viruses and malware

·         Upgrade memory

·         Make sure that computer or processor is not overheating

·         Increase or upgrade the processor speed

·         Verify that the Device Manager has no conflicts.

·         Update the operating system

·         Update drivers

18.   What is primary memory? Explain its types.

à Primary memory is the semiconductor memory which holds those data and instructions on which the computer is currently working. A computer cannot run without the primary memory.

Its types are:

·         RAM: RAM (Random Access Memory) is the internal memory of the CPU for storing data, program, and program result. It is a read/write memory which stores data until the machine is working. As soon as the machine is switched off, data is erased. Hence, a backup Uninterruptible Power System (UPS) is often used with computers. The CPU can directly access the data stored on it, hence they are fast. RAM is larger than ROM, both in terms of its physical size and in the amount of data it can hold. RAM is of two types –

o   Static RAM

o   Dynamic RAM

·         ROM: ROM stands for Read Only Memory. The memory from which we can only read but cannot write on it. This type of memory is non-volatile. The information is stored permanently in such memories during manufacture. A ROM stores such instructions that are required to start a computer. This operation is referred to as bootstrap. The CPU cannot access the data stored on it unless the data is stored in RAM, hence they are much slower than ROM. ROM is smaller than RAM, both in terms of its physical size and in the amount of data it can hold.  ROM chips are not only used in the computer but also in other electronic items like washing machine and microwave oven. Its types are :

o   PROM

o   EPROM

o   EEPROM
