Model set-1

Group A

26.   Mention any two local buses.

àLocal buses/internal buses are:

·         Address Bus

·         Data bus

·         Control bus

Note: expansion buses are external bus

27.   Which component is responsible for processing output of a computer?

àCPU is responsible for processing output of a computer.

28.   Which drive letter is reserved for floppy drive?

àLetter A and B are reserved for floppy drive.

29.   Write the full form of ATX.

àThe full form of ATX is advanced technology extended.

30.   Define Virus.

àVirus is a type of malicious code or program written to alter the way computer operates and is designed to spread from one computer to another.

31.   Define SMPS.

à A switched-mode power supply (switching-mode power supply, switch-mode power supply, switched power supply, SMPS, or switcher) is an electronic power supply that incorporates a switching regulator to convert electrical power efficiently.

32.   Define maintenance.

àMaintenance are the routine activities meant to prevent damage and prolong the life of computer system.

33.   Abbreviate IDE and SATA.

àIDE: Integrated Drive Electronics

SATA: Serial Advanced Technology Attachment

34.   Name the default antivirus program of windows.

àThe default antivirus program of windows is windows defender.

35.   Abbreviate DDR.

àDDR: Double Data Rate

36.   Define troubleshooting.

à Troubleshooting is a form of problem solving, often applied to repair failed products or processes on a machine or a system.

Group B

37.   What do you understand by motherboard form factor?

àThe shape and layout of motherboard is called motherboard form factor.

Some form factor are:

·         AT

·         Standard ATX

·         Micro ATX

·         LPX(low profile extension)

·         NLX(New low profile extended)

38.   Define system bus

à A system bus is a single computer bus that connects the major components of a computer system, combining the functions of a data bus to carry information, an address bus to determine where it should be sent or read from, and a control bus to determine its operation.

39.   What is system care?*

àSystem care refers to maintaining the various components that make up your PC, along with looking at overall factors that affect the system as a whole

40.   Mention a means that we used to protect against the power problems. How does it protect?
àA means that we used to protect against the power problems is UPS.

UPS protect against the problem by continuously establishing a connection to the computer and keeping it running even after power failure.

41.   What is the function of UPS?

àThe function of UPS are:

·         Absorb relatively small power surges.

·         Smooth out noisy power sources.

·         Continuously provides power to equipment during line sags.

·         Automatically shuts down equipment during long power outages.

·         Monitoring and logging of the status of the power supply.

42.   Mention the function of system case.

àThe function of system case are:

·         To serve as a protective structure for the rest of the internal components where they will be assembled.

·         To provide a standardized format for the installation of non-vendor-specific hardware

·         To easily transport the computer from place to place.

Group C

43.   What is processor cooling? Mention different technology/tools used for processor cooling. How heat sink compound works?

àProcessor cooling is the process of dissipation of large amount of heat produced by the processor in order to keep it within its safe operating temperatures.

The different technology/tools used for cooling are:

·         Heat sink

·         Fan

·         Thermal paste or thermal pad

·         Liquid cooling

·         heat pipe

·         phase-change cooling (vapor cooling)

You might think that placing one metal component against another one would result in good enough contact for heat to conduct effectively from one component to the other. But in reality, on a microscopic scale, there will be peaks and troughs in the surfaces that prevent perfect contact across the entire area. In addition, the components themselves may not be sitting perfectly flat and heat will not be conducted effectively from one component to the other. The answer to all these issues is thermal paste/heat sink compound. Heat sink compound fills these gaps between the CPU (central processing unit) or other heat generating components and the mechanical heat sink so that heat will be conducted properly and processor will be cool.

44.   What is memory? Mention important aspects where memory plays a significant role.*

àMemory is the storage space in computer where data is to be processed and instruction required for processing are stored.

The important aspect those memories a significant role are as follows:

·          Performance: In many ways, it is more important than the processor, because insufficient memory can cause a processor to work at 50% or even more below its performance potential.

·          Software Support: Newer programs require more memory than old ones.

·          Reliability and Stability: Ensuring you have high-quality memory will result in a PC that runs smoothly and exhibits fewer problems.

45.   What is preventive maintenance? List out the maintenance action that we can do for protecting our system and making it operate at peak efficiency.

àPreventive maintenance (PM) is the regular and routine maintenance of equipment and assets in order to keep them running and prevent any costly unplanned downtime from unexpected equipment failure.

The maintenance action that we can do for protecting our system and making it operate at peak efficiency are:

1.       Cleaning your computer hardware.

2.       Downloading the latest drivers for your hardware.

3.       Downloading the latest updates for your computer software.

4.       Verifying you have the latest antivirus protection updates on your computer.

5.       Running disk software utilities, such as Defrag and ScanDisk on your hard drive.

6.       Deleting unused programs or other files on your computer.

7.       If you don't turn off your computer, it is good to reboot your computer every few weeks, unless it's a critical computer, like a server.

46.   What is monitor? Write short note about monitor size, color and refresh rate.

àA computer monitor is an output device that displays information in pictorial or text form.

·         Monitor size is measured by the distance from one corner of the screen's viewable area to the diagonally opposite corner. With CRTs, the number is generally about an inch greater than the actual area. Expressed in inches.

·         The refresh rate of a display is the number of times per second that the image refreshes on the screen. For example, a 60Hz display will update the screen 60 times per second.

·         A display monitor capable of displaying many colors. In contrast, a monochrome monitor can display only two colors — one for the background and one for the foreground. Color monitors implement the RGB color model by using three different phosphors that appear red, green, and blue when activated.
